There are some milestone which every child has to show and move from that to the next in order to achieve overall development. We are giving some indicators what a normal child has do and show with respective age from 6 month to 18 months time that to in the key area of motor development both gross motor and fine motor.
The aim of this small piece of article is to educate the new parent about warning signs which they did not consider vital, or in some cases they notice but do not know what to do about that. Even some cases parents wait and they consider it is logical for them to wait and watch approach where majority of the child pass through, but minority did not escape and they regret later.
So if you find any of the signs below consider it is a sign of warning.
We divide this article into gross and fine motor skills and warning signs of red flag too.
GROSS MOTOR:
If a child is
not rolling by 7 months of age
not pushing up on straight arms, lifting his head and shoulder by 8 months of age
not sitting independently by 10 months of age
not creeping (commando crawling) by 10 months of age
not crawling by 12 months of age
not sitting in high chair by 12 months of age
not pulling to stand by 12 months of age
not standing alone or minimal support by 14 months of age
not walking by 18 months of age
Here are some more RED FLAGS
walking on toes, not their soles of the feet
frequently falling/ tipping at 2 years of age
unusual creeping/ crawling pattern
any known medical diagnosis can be considered a RED FLAG: Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Congenital Heart Conditions etc.,
If your child has any one or more Developmental Therapy assessment is appropriate.
FINE MOTOR:
If a child is
frequently in a fisted position with both hands after 6 months of age
not bringing both hands to mid line to the body at 10 months of age
not banging objects together by 10 months of age
not clapping by 12 months of age
not deliberately and immediately release the object by 12 months of age
not able to hold the bottle upside with out lying down by 12 months of age
still using a fisted hand to hold the crayon by 18 months of age
Here are some more RED FLAGS
using only one hand to complete the task
not being able to move/ open one hand/ arm dropping during the tasks that require intense attention
display uncoordinated or jerky movements when doing activities like coloring etc.,
If your child has any one or more Developmental Therapy is appropriate.
Do not delay.
